Position Overview: Compliance Director – Office of the President

IFDC is seeking a highly skilled and ethical Compliance Director to lead the development and implementation of the organization’s global compliance framework. The successful candidate will ensure adherence to international donor regulations, strengthen internal governance systems, and champion a culture of transparency and accountability throughout the organization.

This is a strategic leadership position directly reporting to the President and CEO.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Develop, lead, and continuously enhance IFDC’s global compliance and governance strategy.
  • Provide expert advice to executive management and the Board on compliance, ethics, and risk management.
  • Ensure alignment between compliance priorities, IFDC’s mission, and donor requirements.

Policy, Systems & Risk Oversight

  • Oversee global compliance policies, internal controls, and systems updates.
  • Conduct organizational compliance risk assessments and maintain a risk register.
  • Ensure compliance with evolving EU and donor regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Internal Audit department to ensure clear accountability between assurance and compliance functions.

Investigations & Ethical Conduct

  • Manage and oversee investigations into non-compliance or misconduct.
  • Ensure confidentiality, fairness, and adherence to whistleblower protections.
  • Collaborate with HR and Audit to ensure proper ownership and resolution of cases.
  • Analyze and report compliance trends to management and the Board.

Capacity Building & Training

  • Foster a culture of ethics and compliance throughout IFDC.
  • Design and deliver staff training on data protection, anti-corruption, and conflict of interest management.
  • Develop compliance metrics and track organization-wide compliance performance.

Reporting & External Liaison

  • Prepare compliance reports for senior management and the Board.
  • Serve as liaison with donors, regulators, and external auditors.
  • Represent IFDC in global compliance networks to adopt and share best practices.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, or Governance.
  • At least 12 years of senior experience in compliance, governance, or risk management within donor-funded or international organizations.
  • Deep understanding of EU donor regulations, anti-fraud standards, and international governance frameworks.
  • Multi-country compliance management experience in Africa preferred.
  • Recognized professional certifications such as CCEP, CIA, or CRM are an advantage.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Fluency in English (French is an asset).
