To strengthen service delivery, LAF is inviting applications from dedicated, ethical, and service-oriented professionals to join its Secretariat as Call Centre Legal Officers.

Job Overview – Call Centre Legal Officers (Multiple)

LAF operates Rwanda’s national legal aid call center via toll-free number 1022, enabling citizens to access legal information, guidance, and referrals. As a Call Centre Legal Officer, you will be responsible for handling calls, providing legal support, documenting cases, and contributing to the improvement of legal aid delivery systems.

This is a role for individuals passionate about justice, client service, and data-driven problem solving.

 Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Call Handling and Client Support

  • Receive and respond to incoming calls from citizens seeking legal assistance.
  • Offer clear and accurate legal information, guidance, and referrals in line with LAF procedures.
  • Maintain a professional, empathetic, and supportive tone in all interactions.

2. Documentation and Record Management

  • Register and categorize all calls in LAF’s Management Information System.
  • Document caller details, legal issues presented, interventions offered, and follow-up actions.
  • Ensure confidentiality and ethical information handling at all times.

3. Outbound Communication & Follow-Ups

  • Conduct follow-up calls for ongoing cases or beneficiaries previously assisted.
  • Participate in data collection for legal surveys or impact assessments.

4. Data Verification & Trend Analysis

  • Review client information and verify case details to maintain accurate records.
  • Support the analysis of data trends to identify recurring legal challenges faced by citizens.
  • Prepare periodic performance summaries and recommend improvements.

5. Outreach & Awareness Support

  • Participate in LAF’s community-based initiatives such as:
    • Mobile Legal Aid Clinics
    • Legal Aid Weeks
    • Public legal awareness campaigns

6. Teamwork & Capacity Building

  • Join trainings, internal meetings, and supervision sessions to enhance legal knowledge.
  • Uphold professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all tasks.

H2: Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Legal Practice from the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD).

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ legal experience, preferably in legal aid, advisory services, or client case management.
  • Experience handling citizen inquiries, documenting cases, and managing feedback systems.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Rwanda’s legal aid and justice sector frameworks.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
  • Competence in digital tools and case management systems.
  • High ethical standards, confidentiality, and empathy.
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English (French is an added asset).
  • Familiarity with justice sector institutions in Rwanda.
