About the Internship

The United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC) is offering an exciting Public Information Intern – Audio & Visual opportunity at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City.

UNIC Mexico is part of the UN’s global information network and serves as the primary source of official UN information in Mexico. Its mission is to bring the United Nations closer to people by promoting awareness, public engagement, and support for UN values, campaigns, and global development priorities.

As an intern, you will work under the direct supervision of the UNIC Director and the National Information Officer (NIO) and gain hands-on experience in strategic communications, multimedia production, and digital storytelling across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

This internship is ideal for students and recent graduates passionate about media, audiovisual production, public communication, and international affairs.

 Key Duties & Responsibilities

As a Public Information Intern – Audio & Visual, your responsibilities will include:

Communications & Multimedia Support

  • Assist in researching, drafting, and producing communication materials, with a strong focus on audiovisual and digital content
  • Support the creation of multimedia stories, videos, graphics, and digital assets for UN websites and social media platforms
  • Edit and adapt content for web, print, and social media in Spanish and English

 Digital & Strategic Communication

  • Support strategic UN communication efforts in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean
  • Assist with media monitoring, social media listening, and analytics
  • Apply Boolean search techniques and digital tools to track media coverage (desirable)

 Outreach & Partnerships

  • Support outreach to civil society organizations, NGOs, academia, and youth groups in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic
  • Assist in coordinating communication efforts among UN agencies through the UN Communication Group
  • Collaborate with public and private sector partners on UN campaigns and advocacy initiatives

 Events & Campaigns

  • Assist in planning and organizing UN events, campaigns, and public engagement activities
  • Support initiatives that promote UN education, youth participation, and public awareness

 Innovation & Emerging Media (Desirable)

  • Support the development of AR/VR or interactive media projects (programming skills are an asset)

 Required Qualifications

 Education

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate degree (Master’s or equivalent), OR
  • Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a Bachelor’s degree

 No prior professional work experience is required for UN internships.

 Skills & Competencies

  • Strong interest in communications, media, and international affairs
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and fast-paced environment
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and initiative

 Language Requirements

  • Spanish: Fluency (oral and written) – Required
  • English: Fluency – Desirable

 Technical Skills (Highly Desirable)

  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and MS Teams
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Ability to draft news articles and social media content
  • Experience designing online surveys and polls
