About the Role

The Media and Communications Officer role combines creativity, strategy, and advocacy. It requires a professional who can translate complex development issues into compelling narratives that resonate with donors, partners, policymakers, and the general public.
You will collaborate closely with program teams, leadership, and global communications colleagues to ensure messaging consistency and strategic alignment.
CBM Global seeks a highly motivated Media and Communications Officer to strengthen its internal and external communications in Nigeria. This pivotal role ensures CBM Global’s mission—advancing inclusive development and promoting the voices of persons with disabilities—is represented effectively across digital and media platforms.
The position reports directly to the Country Director (Nigeria) with a dotted line to the Global Senior Communications Officer. You will play a key role in implementing CBM Global’s country communication plan aligned with its global communication strategy.
Key Responsibilities

1. External Communications

  • Manage and update CBM Global Nigeria’s social media and website in alignment with global messaging.
  • Create engaging digital content, media releases, and success stories showcasing program impact.
  • Build relationships with local and national media, NGOs, and advocacy groups to enhance visibility.
  • Monitor digital performance analytics and stay updated on online communication trends.
  • Provide timely communication during humanitarian or crisis situations.

2. Internal Communications

  • Maintain internal newsletters, webinars, and staff updates.
  • Collaborate with program teams to document and share inspiring stories.
  • Uphold brand consistency across all internal communications.
  • Manage and update the local media asset repository for team use.

3. Strategic and Advocacy Communications

  • Contribute to developing and executing the national communication strategy.
  • Support donor relations and advocacy campaigns with high-quality communication materials.
  • Strengthen CBM Global’s brand positioning within Nigeria and the wider region.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in communications or media roles within NGOs or development organizations.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing and social media strategy.
  • Proven writing, editing, and storytelling skills for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with disability inclusion or inclusive development.
  • Membership or certification from a recognized communication body (e.g., CIPR).
