 About Maison Shalom

Maison Shalom is a humanitarian non-governmental organization founded in 1993 to support vulnerable communities, particularly children, refugees, and displaced persons. Since 2015, the organization has been officially registered in Rwanda, where it provides education, economic empowerment, psychosocial support, and emergency humanitarian response.

With operations focused mainly in Mahama Refugee Camp (Kirehe District), Maison Shalom empowers communities to become agents of sustainable development.

 Position: Accountant (Comptable)

Maison Shalom is seeking a skilled and motivated Accountant to strengthen its financial management and ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls.

The Accountant will work closely with the Finance and Administration Director to manage budgets, oversee reporting, and support audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records and process all transactions (income, expenses, payroll, accounts payable/receivable).
  • Ensure compliance with Rwandan tax laws, IFRS, and donor regulations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and verify general ledger accounts.
  • Manage internal controls and recommend cost optimization strategies.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Coordinate with auditors, donors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Provide financial insights to guide organizational decision-making.

 Performance Indicators

  • Timely and accurate financial reports.
  • Positive audit outcomes with minimal compliance issues.
  • Accuracy in monthly reconciliations.
  • Improved cost-efficiency and strengthened financial controls.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA/ACCA is highly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in NGOs or humanitarian organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, taxation, and Rwandan financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Fluency in French and English (spoken and written). Knowledge of Kinyarwanda or other local languages is an asset.

Contract Details
