The MEAL Officer will support the effective implementation of the MEAL system across FSL, Health, Nutrition, and WASH programmes, ensuring high-quality data collection, analysis, reporting, and accountability to affected populations.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Objective 1: Data Collection, Quality Assurance, Analysis & Reporting
The MEAL Officer will play a central role in strengthening programme data systems by:
- Supporting the design and review of MEAL tools such as registers, databases, reporting templates, and monitoring frameworks.
- Coordinating timely and accurate data collection in collaboration with programme teams, CSOs, and government counterparts.
- Conducting monthly data analysis and producing programme monitoring reports aligned with donor and internal requirements.
- Maintaining and updating programme databases to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
- Supporting community feedback sessions and sharing programme findings with beneficiaries and authorities.
- Assisting in the implementation of Data Quality Assessments (DQA) under the guidance of the MEAL Manager.
- Supporting assessments, surveys, evaluations, and research activities as required.
- Planning and facilitating the distribution of MEAL tools and materials to supported field locations.
Objective 2: Programme Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Support
To enhance programme effectiveness, the MEAL Officer will:
- Support monitoring of FSL, Health, Nutrition, and WASH activities across all targeted communities.
- Share findings and insights with Programme Managers to inform adaptive management.
- Participate in project evaluations, with a focus on data cleaning, management, and analysis.
- Support dissemination of evaluation and research findings.
- Promote learning by proposing evidence-based improvements to programme implementation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the preparation of monthly, quarterly, biannual, and annual programme reports.
- Assisting in the management of beneficiary complaints and feedback mechanisms.
- Supporting transparent communication with communities and stakeholders.
- Maintaining organized digital records by updating shared drives and project documentation regularly.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Demography, Rural Development, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience working with local or international NGOs.
- Proven experience supporting MEAL functions in humanitarian or development projects.
- Prior exposure to FSL, WASH, Health, or Nutrition programmes is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel and data analysis tools.
- Experience using statistical and data collection software such as SPSS, STATA, ODK, Kobo, or similar platforms.
Language Skills
- Fluency in English is required.
- Working knowledge of Hausa and Kanuri is a strong advantage.
