About the Role
The Driver will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of staff, visitors, and project materials. You’ll also support fleet coordination tasks, vehicle checks, and weekend duty when needed. This role is vital to field operations, especially during field missions and humanitarian response activities.
In peak periods or emergencies, the driver may be expected to work longer hours, provide backup driving support, and maintain readiness for urgent deployments.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Safely transport staff, partners, and goods to project field sites and operational areas.
- Keep the travel board updated and manage vehicle request schedules.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks, maintain logbooks, and monitor fuel consumption records.
- Ensure vehicles remain clean, serviced, and roadworthy at all times.
- Coordinate with the logistics team to follow up on repairs and scheduled maintenance.
- Provide courier and document delivery services as required.
- Support the upkeep and minor maintenance tasks for office premises or staff residences when assigned.
- Ensure compliance with organizational driving standards and safety protocols.
- Maintain professionalism when interacting with staff, community members, and partners.
Required Qualifications and Skills
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should have:
- Must be a Rwandan national.
- A valid national driving license (Categories B and D are mandatory).
- An A2 Mechanic certificate or equivalent technical knowledge.
- At least 5 years of proven driving experience, preferably with organizations or projects.
- Secondary school education or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills in English (Kinyarwanda is essential; French is an added advantage).
- High physical fitness and ability to work long hours or in demanding environments.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and respect for safety standards.
Desirable Skills
Applicants with the following will have an added advantage:
- Previous experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or humanitarian agencies.
- Familiarity with rural road networks and remote field environments.
