About the Article 6 Readiness Facility

In October 2024, GGGI launched the Carbon Transaction Facility (CTF) — a first-of-its-kind platform designed to scale international carbon trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

What Is Article 6?

Article 6 enables countries to trade verified emission reductions, known as Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), to meet climate targets more efficiently.

Rwanda’s Role

Through the Article 6 Readiness Facility, GGGI is working closely with the Government of Rwanda to:

  • Operationalize Rwanda’s Carbon Market Framework
  • Strengthen institutional and technical capacity
  • Prepare mitigation projects for future carbon trading

The Rwanda readiness project officially started in early 2025.

Internship Opportunity: What You’ll Do

The intern will support the Rwanda Article 6 Readiness Project under the supervision of the Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Research Support

  • Assist with daily project implementation activities
  • Conduct literature reviews on climate policy, carbon markets, and mitigation strategies
  • Collect and analyze sectoral climate data

Reporting & Knowledge Products

  • Support preparation of technical reports and presentations
  • Review, edit, and proofread GGGI publications and training materials

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Help organize stakeholder consultations and capacity-building workshops
  • Prepare training materials, logistics, and workshop reports
  • Coordinate communication with government institutions, private sector actors, and partners

Administrative & Technical Assistance

  • Maintain documentation and project records
  • Provide operational support across project components
  • Perform other duties aligned with project goals

Who Should Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

To qualify for the GGGI Internship Program, applicants must:

  • Be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, or enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program, OR
  • Be a recent graduate (within the last 12 months)
  • Have an academic background relevant to climate, sustainability, engineering, or development
  • Demonstrate excellent English communication skills (written and spoken)

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following will strengthen your application:

  • Studies in environmental science, climate change, sustainability, engineering, or related fields
