The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is recruiting a highly experienced and strategic professional to fill the role of Chief of Party in Abuja, Nigeria. Job Purpose
The Chief of Party will provide overall vision, leadership, and strategic direction to the consortium and ensure effective delivery of project objectives. The role involves high-level coordination with donors, government institutions, consortium partners, and humanitarian stakeholders while guaranteeing compliance, accountability, and program excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Management & Leadership
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for consortium-wide activities
- Oversee project implementation, performance monitoring, and budget management
- Recruit, supervise, and mentor project staff in line with DRC HR policies
- Chair the Project Steering Committee and ensure effective decision-making
- Track work plans and hold partners accountable for agreed commitments
- Ensure project decisions are documented, communicated, and followed up
Compliance, Finance & Operational Support
- Supervise the Finance and Administration Coordinator overseeing finance, HR, logistics, and administration
- Ensure donor compliance across all consortium partners
- Review and validate financial reports, expenditures, and audit processes
- Act as donor focal point for financial, procurement, and compliance matters
- Oversee sub-grant management and corrective actions where required
- Maintain and update a project-wide risk register with mitigation strategies
- Lead the development of the consortium intervention strategy
- Coordinate governance structures including Steering Committees and Technical Working Groups
- Oversee program design, planning, and delivery in line with donor expectations
- Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of consortium outputs
- Establish a harmonized Vulnerability Assessment Framework
- Promote strong community engagement and interoperable information management systems
Representation, Coordination & Advocacy
- Represent the consortium with donors, INGOs, UN agencies, and government institutions
- Support country-level Advocacy Working Groups
- Maintain strong relationships with ministries, donors, and implementing partners
- Lead external communications in line with donor branding and marking guidelines
- Promote coordination and data-sharing across the humanitarian ecosystem
Reporting & Accountability
- Ensure timely submission of narrative and financial reports
- Review and approve final donor reports
- Monitor financial performance against approved budgets
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date reporting in DRC project management systems
Business Development
- Identify and develop new funding opportunities
- Lead and coordinate full proposal development within the consortium mandate
- Leverage partner expertise to strengthen competitive bids
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BSc/HND) in a relevant field
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in humanitarian or development work
- Proven experience managing multi-partner consortia
- Strong preference for experience with ECHO-funded programs
- Demonstrated success in donor coordination and stakeholder engagement
- Experience working in displacement or conflict-affected contexts
